About Interdisciplinary Institute for Food Security (IIFS)

The Interdisciplinary Institute for Food Security (IIFS) is a distinguished institute at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), established in 2013 to address food security challenges in Bangladesh. IIFS adopts a comprehensive approach, integrating research, education, community engagement, and professional practice to promote sustainable agriculture and food security. The institute emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, focusing on agricultural practices, policy analysis, climate change impacts, environmental sustainability, gender issues, health, and socio-cultural dimensions of food security. IIFS serves as a platform for information sharing and dialogue among civil society organizations, academic institutions, and government bodies, hosting national and international conferences and engaging in local and regional food security initiatives. Additionally, IIFS offers a Professional MS in Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security, a weekend-taught program designed for professionals in agriculture, food security, food safety, and rural development. The institute also houses the Food Quality and Safety Laboratory, contributing to research and testing in food safety.
