IIFS Associate Director organizes stakeholder workshop with private sector actors in aquaculture

[13 July 2019, Gazipur] IIFS Associate Director Professor Dr Harunur Rashid has recently organized a stakeholder to learn problems in the fish feed and nutrition sector of Bangladesh aquaculture. Organized at the Faculty of Fisheries of Bangabandhu Sheikh Munibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU) at Gazipur, the workshop was participated by fish & shrimp farmers, fish & shrimp hatchery operators, aqua-biotech companies & NGOs.

The day-long workshop has identified some key problems in the aqua-feed and nutrition sector of freshwater and coastal aquaculture of Bangladesh. Apart from private sector players, the workshop was participated by some reputed scientists in the aquaculture and biotechnology sectors of Bangladesh viz. Dr M Gulam Hussain (former Director of the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute and Bangladesh Country Coordinator of USAID’s Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Fish), Dr Md Tofazzal Islam (Professor and Director, Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering-IBGE, BSMRAU), Dr Md Mahbubur Rahman, Professor, IBGE-BAMRAU), Dr S. M. Rafiquzzaman (Associate Professor, Faculty of Fisheries, BSMRAU) and Dr M Mehedi Hasan (Assistant Professor, Faculty of Fisheries, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh). Professor Dr. Md Shah Alam, Aquaculture Nutritionist of the Center for Marine Science of the University of North Carolina Wilmington, USA also participated the workshop via Skype.
